It's a good guitar. Not a great one, but a good one - what do you expect for the money? Wink Cherri at Bluestalk has one and she loves it. A good usable workingman's guitar that won't break the bank. It will need to be tweaked - pickups, switches, pots, etc.

Well my big reason for getting one is....Eric Clapton in Cream (surprise right? Rolling Eyes ) And I know that's a ES-335, so will a dot sound like EC's 335?

Having the same guitar as one of you idols will not make you sound/play like them. I'm not saying this as an insult so please don't take it as one. I think we are all guilty of buying a guitar because someone else plays one(myself included) and its not necessarly a bad thing. Just make sure that you like more about the guitar than the fact that someone else played one.

A semi-hollow body guitar like the 335 certianly has a unique sound that you probably will not be able to get with a solid body guitar. It will also take a bit of getting use to as well. It will hang on you differently, it's quite a bit bigger than most guitars, and your picking arm will also be resting differently against it. Try them out extensivly at a store before you buy one and make sure it's what your looking for. Once you do that, you should love it if it is for you!

Just so you know, Eric didn't play the 335 very much. In his Gibson days he almost always used either the LP, 'LP/SG or the Firebird. Every time I saw him he had one of those last two, and he was almost always filmed or photographed with them. I never saw him or saw a film or photo of him playing the 335.

I in fact, have 2 vids of Clapton using his Red 335. And both are awesome. Not to mention, he used it in Cream's final show. On the 1st night of the farewell shows he used his Firebird I and on the second (and final) night he used his 335.

I saw him at the next to the last show at Ames, Iowa, he had the Firebird I. Never saw any videos from back then, just saw him live several times.

EC must have stuffed that box full of cotton considering the blistering volumes that Cream was famous for. A 335 would howl like a banshee at that level without some help. Cool

Are you saying in essence Herb that you only get what you pay for? How does that explain the tremendous success of Eastman guitars out of China, now promoted by John Pisano, and the Hofner line out of Germany. My Gibson ES-175 had many flaws next to the Hofner New President and the Gibby was considerable more money. The Gibson has grown to mythical proportions, and more and more professionals are realizing that and buying outside the Gibson line.

I know that Gibson has some rather high pricing, I own a few. My Carvin is a much better built guitar than my Gibsons - any of them. If I remember the Hofner New President is one of their top of the line pieces. An ES-175 was a low end archtop for Gibson, it was popular because it wasn't as expensive as their high end pieces. You are comparing apples to oranges. Care to come over and compare your Hofner to my LeGrand? Wink
