Welcome to the forum, Mike!
Seymour Duncan '59s, or Pearly Gates are less expensive than a set of Gibsons, and do a very good job. Or you could go with DiMarzios Virtual PAFs. Either way you can often score those for about $60 per pickup, sometimes less for decent used ones.
Stay tuned,

| I just put some Duncans in a Tokai LP I bought and I'm very happy with them. SDs are quality pickups and so are Gibsons, though IMO Gibson pups are overpriced. |

I have several guitars with Seymour's pickups in them and they work fine for me. I have one set of Gibson '57s, too, and the difference between them and Seymour's '59s or Pearly Gates is negligible. And that difference may not even be "better" to you, pickup opinions are very subjective, and depend a lot on your gear, the guitar they are in, and your fingers. |

| I dont know that much about pickups, could I put a Seymour Duncan in the neck and a Gibson in the bridge or would that sound bad? |

Whats good or bad is subjective.
If you dont have the desire to learn about pups then buy a matched pair. If you do however, you'll be doing some reading. If pups are going to work together you need to find out which sound each individual pup is trying to emulate. You'll also need to find out what the output for each pup is so you don't wind up with one that overpowers the other. Those are two very basic starting points to leap from.
Heres something we all learn at some point or another. Your the only one who knows what you want. Asking others what they like can't hurt, but describing tone with text sure isn't easy. Just because we like it doesn't mean you will. GL
