OK, I'm not the expert, but. I just bought an old Epiphone Special. Not a great guitar, but the the serial number intrigued me.
I looked it up on the Gibson site and was convinced it was a 77. So in confusion I called the Gibson factory and talked to a customer service guy. He told me it was a 77. I am having a hard time believing it. The serial number is 06060489.
I bought it from a pawn shop in Texas for $127.00 with shipping. It looks old and plays beautifully.
Does this number sound correct for a 77 Epi? |

Welcome to the Forum, Sprinter4!
I've looked around for awhile now, and the only Special I can find made by Epiphone was and Olympic Special, and it was discontinued in 1970. All the information I have doesn't cover any Epiphones made overseas.
Epiphone guitars were American made until approximately 1970, and then production was moved to Japan and later Korea.
I'm sorry I couldn't help you more with this one.
Play on, Stan |
