As much as I liked that ES-135 I bought a week and a half ago, I just couldn't pass this up...

Forgiven. If it is all original, then get the ceramic pickups out of that guitar quick! Unless you like bright harsh pups.

| No offense taken. I'm already thinking about Burstbuckers. |

Excellent, that top is mesmerizing! But yeah, get ya some BBs, or '57s, and you'll be smiling! |

Great top. Interesting enough, Gibson often goes overboard on guitar tops in an attempt to mimic the great look of the original Burst from 58-60. But only a few burst had the ultra killer tops. Most had either plaintops or the mild flame like on this classic. If you look at the bursts in the book Beauty and the Burst, more of them look like this than any others.
Case in point, I have shown you guys this picture recently. Look at the Supreme in the middle. That top is OVER the top. Next to it on the right is a very realistic 58 re-issue top. Much more convincing.
Point is, the top on yours makes this guitar look new and old at the same time. It looks like the classic Les Paul of the 50's while being nice and clean and shinny. I like it!

I made kinda' the same point over at the Gibson forum. To me, there's nothing wrong with flame that isn't perfectly even from end to end, or doesn't go all the way to the edge. It looks more authentic. As you said, the originals didn't have these AAAAA rated tops. They just grabbed a nice hunk of maple, split it, glued it and there's your top. If it has a nice flame, good for you. If not, oh well.
BTW, after saying all that your supreme looks awesome!!! |

By the way, I forget which burst this is, but look at the top. This is what we are talkin about here everyone! Looks a lot like yours too.

| There's going to be a set of either '57 Classics or burstbuckers with nickel covers going into my Classic at some point. |

Excellent choice. I love the Burst Buckers for that early PAF sound. The 57 Classics are very cool too, much like the Burst Buckers, but slightly fuller in the midrange.

Those two sets are my current favorites from Gibson's stable of pickups, too. Great tones. |
