Whoa! That doesn't happen very often at all? Have you tried it through different amps to see if it is the amp and not the guitar?
Welcome to the Forum, Mark! Glad to have you here, and it's good to hear you're startin' to play again.
Stay tuned,
Stan |

New strings (of course), a Super Reverb, treble at 9, midrange at 10, and bass at 8!!! (yes 8...), reverb at 1.5 - 2.... and something beautiful should happend
I strongly believe that 4 x 10' is excellent for p-90 (early 60s P-90s normally delivers a a very smooth midrange, a clear top and a bell like bottom = sounds WONDERFUL!!!)
BTW a changed PU will detract from the guitars value quite a lot (you probably already know...) |

ya, new strings, for sure... I would never remove the pickup. Even de-magged slightly from time, it's worth more as is than with a replaced pup. I'm surprised you say it sounded thin. Those old P90's tend to sound great, even get better over time, and yours, kept stock, is probably worth $3500+ right now [4/08]. don't replace the P90. Best of luck.

Yes, the pickup may have lost its strength and some punch from natural demagnetization over 35 years, but is still the real deal. That's what happens, and usually sweetens them up.
Perhaps a tone cap change would do, if you're into breaking any solder at all.
Voodoo would know about that. |
