What kind of tone? There's the 64 thousand dollar question! Like the Supreme Court justice who said "I can't describe pornography, but I know it when I see it", I'm not sure I can define it, but I'll know it when I hear it. I've not had an opportunity to mess with it yet, but I took a Blues Jr with me to try it out. It did OK with the drive side, but I don't think a BJ is the best cleam amp out there. I have a 40w 1X12 Blues Deluxe I used with my Tele, and it gets creat clean sounds.
I have a Rivera Sedona Lite I am hoping will work with it, because I always have it at church. I use it to play my Anderson Crowdster through leading worship. I already haul so much stuff on Sunday mornings as it is, I really don't want to take another boat anchor amp!

I'll have to start paying more attention to what people are using for amps to try to peg what I'm hoping to acheive

I believe the Rivera Sedona should do very well with your 335! I have a Rivera 55-112R that I've played mine through, and it was great. I can certainly agree with you about hauling gear, I leave a full setup; amp, effects, cords, gear, and backups for everything at church so about all I have to bring is a guitar or two, and I'm ready to go! Cool

I posted an earlier reply to your question about tone, but i don't know where it went!

The 335 sounds really great through the Rivera. It sounds a little brighter and clearer through the BLues Deluxe, but so so thorugh my modified Blues Junior. My Strat sounded great through it, but not much else has that I've tried, so i'll probalby sell it.

I'm going to give the 335 a shot tomorrow at church to see how it goes alongside my Anderson Crowdster.

Thanks for the reply

Well, how did your 335 do, Jeff?

This weekend I took my Carvin Bolt, and a Gibson Classic '60 Les Paul. They did very well. Cool

If the tone you seek is amp-based, why not try out different fender/ marshall/ other amps at a guitar center until you find one you like? Go on a weekday evening. Weekends are too loud.

I tried a chinese Epi 335 thru a fender tube amp recently and was really impressed with how good it sounded. Decent classic rock sound. Type A tube amps are the standard for warmth and tone to my ears... but they are not cheap if they're loud enough for your needs. Maybe a Vox AC30 or Soldano or Hughes &Ketter? A Fender Twin? Best of luck in your search.

Thanks for your reply. I've changed some tubes out in my Rivera Sedona lite, and now the 335 sounds really good through it.

I just bought a Frenzel amp from Ebay, looking forward to seeing it arrive, hopefully by the end of this week. It has both a Fender channel and a Marshall channel, and lots of cool stuff.

Once I get it home and mess with it I'll write something about it here.

God bless, Jeff

Thanks, Jeff. I'll be looking forward to a review of that Frenzel. I've heard nothing but glowing reports on them, but for the price they better be nice!

Stay tuned,

Hi Stan. I don't know what you've heard price wise with these amps, but all I've heard is how inexpensive they are compared to the rest of the "Boutique" amp crowd.

This is a 25 watt 5E3 with 6L6 power tubes. Granted it doesn't come with a cabinet, just the exposed chassis, but I have a guy at church itching to build me a head cab to wrap around it. I think he has every wood working tool known to man, and has built all his own furniture.

This has an F (Fender) channel and an M (Marshall) channel

This came with a unfinished pine speaker cabinet with a Weber Ceramic speaker, and I paid $599.00 for it.

Listening to some of the clips on Youtube, I think i'm going to enjoy this.

I'll let you know how it works out. God bless

Three letters... W... O... W!

Sheesh, was that some crazy bargain, or is that what they go for? I had not heard that they were that reasonable. Shocked Very Happy

I know they make larger models, but this 5E3 goes for 695 I believe, but that's not with a cabinet. Maybe the bigger ones are a lot more dough, but 25 watts is more than enough for me.

All the best with your new amp!

I've been satisfied and stayed with Blues Deluxes for all-purpose and anywhere. My milder distortion pedals are a group of Ibanez Tube Screamers in different flavors and a Marshall Bluesbreaker.

I've found that the Blues Junior is a little lacking in full tone at lower volumes, but when cranked to 3 or 4, then past 4 ..... it sounds good - broken & saturated & LOUD just like my Super 60. But the Super has wicked distortion on its own, not for the faint hearted, or me on most occasions, actually. I like clean, big and lots of reverb. Rolling Eyes Wink

I had a blues jr and a blues deluxe, and I agree with you completely on both counts. I sold them both, for different reasons.

For me the deluxe was too heavy to lug around. I had back surgery some years back, and had two discs removed. Another problem was too much volume. Once I bought the Rivera Sedona I didn't reall need the deluxe. The 335 sounded as good through the Rivera as it did the deluxe. Now that I've retubed the Rivera it's even better

I hoping this Frenzel with do the job I need it to do

Thnaks for your reply. God bless, Jeff

Hey, it's good to hear from you! I've read a lot of your posts, and marveled at the pictures of your equipment. Man, what a GREAT collection!

I've been getting to know Stan, he's right down the road from me, about a half hour drive. He told me he flew back to visit you, and had a great time. He speaks highly of you.

One of my buddys who plays lead guitar in our church band has a Fender Deluxe Reverb, and it's a great sounding amp. He has some NOS tubes that make a huge difference in the sound. He's also using a 2X12 Avatar cabinet with Celestion golds that really makes it sing.

I was keeping an eye out for a DRRI at a good price when I read about this Frenzel. After hearing clips on Youtube and reading everything I could find on it I pulled the trigger.

I hope it's all it's cracked up to be. I'll write a review once I've had a chance to put it through it's paces.

Thanks for the reply, it's nice to meet you. God bless, Jeff
