i'm looking at buying a double neck gibson from a pawn shop.
they want 1600 for it, but there is no case. will an epiphone case work?
it's a 1979 and in excellent shape.

The Epi headstocks are longer, but other than that the guitars should be very close in size. My recommendation is to put the guitar in the case and see if it fits. Have you tried the guitar hanging on you with a strap? They are very heavy. You might also check that out before you make your purchase. You have probably already done this, but also make very sure that everything works and nothing has been changed, like tuners and pickups.

Congrats on the potential score. $1600 is a heck of a price for a 1275 in good condition.

Herb was giving you a subtle hint when he asked you if you've tried playing it standing up. I've got two of those beasts (had to have a white one), and heavy is an understatement. Worse than the weight is it's distribution...they're neck-heavy. And you'll find there's no perfect playing position, you have to compromise between the two necks. One will always be too high or too low for comfort.

Having said all that, there's nothing more visually captivating on a stage than a doubleneck. A 10 in the cool factor. But it will be your least-played guitar. There's a reason why Jimmy, Alex and John only used them on a song or two a nite.

Voodoo, yep, it's a custom shop, Artic White w/gold hardware. Very pretty, and give it a couple of years, and it'll be the nice creamy white.

Yeah, I'd have to agree. Twin necks are a display guitar not a playing guitar.

I have two twin necks, A Gibson in Artic white/gold and also an early Ibanez copy in Artic White.

Truth be known, the bolt-on necked Ibanez plays MUCH better than the Gibbo. Shocked

Photos will follow in 6 days... (and counting) Wink

All the Gibson doublenecks are now made in the custom shop. When I bought the new one at the end of the year, the setup it arrived with was the worst I had ever experienced on a new guitar. The action was a foot off the neck.

I realize that setup is not covered, and everyone likes something different in their setup, but this was rediculous, especially coming out of the Custom Shop. I had to do a long session of truss rod(s) adjustment to fix it.

In contrast, my Carvin showed up with a setup that is incredible. It'll fret if you blow on the strings, with no buzzes or dead spots. And if you haven't tried stainless steel frets yet, you need to. So smooth, bends/vibrato like butta...

Hello again!

Yes, the apparent complete lack of setup of Gibson guitars is not only strange but very annoying. It must make it hard to sell the guitars in the shop (unless of course the shop spends the time to setup the guitar before putting it on display, maybe Gibson are relying on that and trying to save money Rolling Eyes )

I recently bought a new Robot LP, and it hadn't been on display, so it was "as it left the factory". Well, the neck was CONVEX and action so low that the strings were actually fretting out on the middle of the neck. This in turn meant that the main feature of the guitar, the Robot tuning, didn't work properly. How stupid is that? (There's no way that the guitar could have been tested for functionality when it left the factory). One thing's for sure, I won't EVER be buying a brand new Gibson again. If I have to buy one, I'll let someone else go through the process of getting the thing set up...

Anyway, here's my double neck...

And here's my 70s Ibanez double neck...

And...guess what? The Ibanez is the better playing guitar of the two!

It has to be a FENDER twin neck Tele, with a 12/6 arrangement...they are pretty rare I believe. Wink

I did see one on eBay a while back and I've been kicking myself ever since for not buying it. #Mad
