Hello all,

My name's John, age 54. I live in the DFW area of north TX. Ive been a member of the forum for just over a year.

These days, I play purely for my own enjoyment. I played out in the 70's and 80's, but my day gig precludes a committment to a band these days. I produce and manage a signed guitarist/composer who has been recording for 20 years. He has solo instrumental albums, and has a prog-rock band w/vocals, releasing their first album in '07. He's working on a jazz-fusion album at the moment, and writing the follow-up to the vocal band's first album. In a review of one of the solo albums, Guitar (for the Practicing Musician) said:

"Think of Steve Morse mixed with Paul Gilbert, seasoned with Yngwie Malmsteen and broiled under the heat of Rush". So, if any of those names are familiar to you, you have an idea of the genre we work in.

My recording prefernce is analog, but good luck these days. It's hard to argue with the editing capabilities of ProTools, and we're constantly finding ways to "warm up" digital recordings by running thru tube compressors, etc. (I still like analog warmth, but I'm out-voted)

I am not so nearly technically accomplished as a player; I'm more a pentatonic soloist.

My Gibson collection hovers between 15 and 20 at any given time ( some come and go), my favorites are 335's and SG's, as I prefer double cutaways, but I have a couple of Flying V's, a Les Paul, ES 137, a couple of EDS 1275 Doublenecks, etc. My oldest is a 25 yr old Custom Shop 335, but I'd like to take the leap and find a 60's 335/45/55. My next guitar is locked in, the Custom Shop Alex Lifeson Signature ES 355.

Aside from a 65 Fender blackface Deluxe, my amps are all modern, high gain, tube half stacks (Marshall, 2 Laney, 5150), and like everyone, always chasing that elusive tone.

Dumped all my rack gear as so many are doing today, and have reverted to pedals.

One always hopes to make a contribution, but there are several people here with much more knowledge of Gibson guitars and restoration, etc, than myself, so I'm usually the one asking the question. (thanks guys)

If anyone wants to chat on the harder side of rock and related equipment, I'm always up for that.

Cheers!

Very cool JCP! I live in DFW as well (Park Cities area). Sounds like you've been around the block or two and have a lot to offer the gentleman you're producing/managing. Any clips of his work online, I'd like to check it out...

I look forward to learn'n a thing or two from ya.
