As some of you guys know - I've been in the studio for the last few weeks recording a guitar instrumental album. One of the tunes is the fantastic and sweet "The end of the world".
As you know too - copyright must be cleared before recording and releasing a CD - but I can't find out who actually wrote this lovely tune (composer and lyric writer)...

Was it Skeeter Davis herself ? (she performed it and the song are always mentioned as "Skeeter Davis The end of..." etc.
But did she actually write it as well???

Maybe some of yoy guys overthere can tell Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

"The End of the World" (released 1962 - Skeeter Davis) was written by Sylvia Dee. It was produced by Chet Atkins and was played as an instrumental guitar solo by Marty Stuart at Chet's funeral; and Skeeter's original recording of it was played at the Ryman Auditorium for her own funeral. The song has been covered by a number of artists on albums, including The Carpenters, Loretta Lynn, Herman's Hermits, Bobby Vinton, John Cougar Mellencamp, Johnny Mathis, Julie London, Eddy Arnold, Dottie West, Nancy Sinatra, Sonia Evans, Twiggy, Claudine Longet, Agnetha Fältskog (of ABBA fame), Rosie Flores, Patti Page, Anne Murray, Nina Gordon, Vonda Shepard, Exposé, The Vanguards, Leigh Nash, Lobo and others. Davis' remains the definitive performance, her version has been featured on the soundtracks of a number of films including Girl Interrupted, Riding In Cars With Boys, and Daltry Calhoun. Davis went on to score many other country music hits as well as a few major pop crossovers, but she was forever identified with "The End of the World" and sung it at virtually every concert appearance she would make after its success.

I'd be careful with Wikipedia results, and try to doublecheck all of the details somewhere else to verify. Cool

Yes... Wikipidia somtimes blow hot air... but now NCB (Nordic Copyright Bureau) have confirmed to me Sylvia Dee ans the composer/writer.

And thanks to you James too - I'm often looking for copyrights connected to songs as we have got a quite persistant copyright law here in DK.

The end of the world opens the CD followed by a Swedish tradtional called Du är den enda. Then comes Gary More/Phil Lynotts Parisienne walkway, The winner takes it all by ABBA late 70s and Morning has broken. The following tunes are Where have all the flowers gone in a sort of Les Paul guitar arrangement with a little multi tracking, Guitar tango, Apache, Dance on and my very own Phom dii Jai - which is Thai and means I'm happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Maybe I can post some fragments of the tunes very soon (but as with pictures I'm too stupid to know how to do it...).

Maybe you think it's a strange choice of songs - but they have in common that they are nice, touching, and and easy to listen to - and they have all meant something to me in different periods of my life.

Particularly my Stratocaster (sorry James Very Happy ) are beautyfully recorded with delay and a long spacey reverb. The arrangements are kept simple - with only electric guitar, acoustic guitars, bass guitars, piano, different keyborards and drums. What I like is that the final result is very much up to my expectations - it sounds just like I had it my minds a few months ago Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
