Hi everyone, nice to be here.
I'm dithering about which LP Studio to get. There seems to be 2 different price points. The wine red, ebony etc are £200 dearer than the worn cherry, worn brown. Is there a difference in the guitar other than the looks? It's going to be a recording guitar.
Thanks

Welcome to the Forum, Spot! Good boy!

I've owned a couple of those Worn Studio models, one in Cherry, and one in Brown. I sold the Cherry one to a member here on GT just because I liked the brown color better. They are great guitars, IMHO, and are likely to be one of Gibson's best bang for the buck guitars. I play mine a lot, and it sounds great. Although they are discontinued now, they came stock with the Burstbucker Pro pickups which I like better than the 490/498 set that come in the regular Studios.

Stay tuned,
Stan

Thanks SA
Hmm, quite like the cherry meself...
The only thing I noticed was that the worn ones are all mahogony, the dearer ones have the maple/mahogony.
Think I'll grab one then before they disappear then. I had a 1975 Deluxe gold top years ago (was gorgeous) but it wont run to that cash wise these days.

Wuff!

The bodies with a maple top will add a bit more high end on the tone, but it's a subtle difference unless you have a well-developed ear. I really enjoy having a Paul that I don't have to worry about knocking around. For the classier gigs, I can always pull out a prettier one. Laughing Laughing

Play on,

I'm the guy that bought the afforementioned studio from Stan. It is a great guitar and I have zero complaints. I actually kinda perfer the natural wood look to some of the fancier tops anyways... seems to have more soul to me.

SA is too. And those burst bucker pros... Very nice!

Thanks all. I was tracking a couple of "higher end" models on ebay, but would prefer new if possible as you cant always be sure of what your getting. You put my mind at rest with your comments. They're selling them in the uk for £449 which is about $880 which is great for a brand new gibson.

Just one man's opinion here... but a Les Paul should be a maple top on a mahogany body if you want the true LP tone. Like Stan said, it might be a subtle difference but that's how the signature LP tone came about. Mahogany + maple + PAF type humbuckers. The rest after that is ornamental with bindings and such but if I were to get a studio it would have to be the one with maple.

Now me, I'm more likely to buy a prettier guitar than I am to actually practice and learn how to play it better, so you might not want to listen to me. Cool

Now your making me dither again AC AND you've confused the dog, he's doing the dancing eyebrows thing.
Well, I am tracking a couple of ebay LP's with the maple tops as well, cant show the links till I've posted a bit more apparently.
