Yes, it's nice isn't it...but it's not going anywhere! (I'd only have to replace it again... ) |

Oh bloody hell. Another GAS attack and an incoming Gibbo guitar...
Anyone like to guess what type it will be?
(hint: I didn't have one of this model so far... ) |

Blueshawk? Nighthawk? Those are two I haven't seen from you yet, bro, and you really should treat yourself. The Nighthawk could be just the bluesiest, Tele-like thing that Gibson ever did!

Bzzzz. Incorrect.
Another hint: It has a 6-a-side Headstock. |

Yep, it's a Firebird, although not knowing much about Gibsons, I don't really know what model it is.
Maybe you knowledgeable chaps can tell me what it is... |

That's the White One model, and they're very useful for surfing in the small chop, not really built for big waves.
But seriously folks, and Ajay in particular, have you tried a Blueshawk, or a Nighthawk yet? I think they are two of the most underrated, innovative guitars every built, and fit very well into a Telecaster fanatic's arsenal.
Enjoy that 'Bird, bro! |

Have to report a "top eBay" seller. The guy I am buying the Firebird from emailed me today and asked if I'd like to have the guitar professionally setup prior to him sending it to me - for FREE. Nice guy...
I guess a Blueshawk / Nighthawk may appear on the Ajay radar at some stage, it will just depend if one appears on the guitar supply web site (eBay) and if it is the "right" price.
I know it might appear like I buy anything going, but in fact it's not the case. I only buy something if it's the "right" price in my deranged mind. The Firebird was a case in point. It had been listed multiple times over a period of at least two months, slowly reducing in price to the point at which I thought; "If I don't buy it now, someone else will". But I have had guitars that I have missed out on by this practice as well. But there will always be another one... |

Ajay, that would be the Firebird V - but without the Vibrola. Originally there were four models, the Firebird I, one mini-humbucker in the bridge position, dot inlays, (That's Eric Clapton in the picture!), nothing fancy;
the Firebird III, two mini-humbuckers, dot inlays, short Vibrola;
the Firebird V - the "Standard" version, two mini-humbuckers, trapezoid inlays, long tail Vibrola, nickle hardware (now chrome);
and the Firebird VII, the "Custom" - Three mini-humbuckers, block inlays, gold hardware, long tail Vibrola.
There were also two Basses; the one pickup Thunderbird II, and the two pickup Thunderbird IV. Great sounding basses, but really heavy!

Hey thanks Herb!
Great and informative summary, and once again something learned from the forum!
That's what makes it neat hanging around these places... |

THE BEST FIRBIRDS were the EARLY to MID 60's with 3 P-90's in em,
I recenty BOUGHT ONE and LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE IT !!!!!
PERFECT FOR BLUES AND ESPECIALLY SLIDE !!!!!!!
THEN AGAIN I HAVE YET TO PLAY ANY GIBSON WITH P-90's and not find it to be the VERY BEST GIBSON has to offer !!!!!!
Though VINTAGE FIREBIRDS with the NON reverse head are getting UP there in prices BUT ya get whatcha pay for !!!!!!
AND I AM QUITE HAPPY !!!!
They also make a CUSTOM SHOP FIREBIRD in TV WHITE with 3 P-90's for about 1900.00 with all CUSTOM SHOP GOODIES and they now come in TV WHITE !!!!
But I will warn ya FIREBIRDS are NOT for everyone...they have a LONG NECK, hard to get to points on the guitar and a lesser sized re-sale market so if ya decide to sell it ya maky have to wait on the right buyer.
A FIREBIRD with P-90's is as BEAUTIFULL as an ES-330 or a SG with em...it's just HEAVEN !!!
There are few ax's I would say I am maried to and all have P-90s in em,
My 67 SG SPECIAL..MY 67 ES-330...the FIREBRID,BLUESHAWKS,
1956 re-issue PAUL, a CUSTOM TELE I built with a P-90 in the bridge and my BFG LES PAUL....
NOW THAT IS TONE maybe UGLY TONE BUT STILL A TONAL MONSTER !!!!!
I am considering adding a SECOND P-90 to the BFG thus having it become a 3 pup PAUL ...2 P-90;s and the PRO BURSTBUCKER 3 !!!!!
OH YEAH and a couple LES PAUL SPECIALS from the 60's with KILLER P-90's in em and of course the MELODY MAKERS AND LP JR"S......
Lot's of people made there living on the supposed lesser models.
LESLIE WEST PLAYED NOTHING BUT A LES PAUL JR !!!!!! and JOAN JETT PLAYED THE LEAST EXPENSIVE GIBSON AVAILABLE THE MELODY MAKER WHEN IT TOO HAD TWO p-90;'s in it.....
Word on the street is that JOAN JETT will soon have her own SIGNATURE SERIES MELODY MAKER.....that should drive the price up to 500.00 !!!!
The P-90 is GIBSON'S BEST tried and proven PUP it has out lasted EVERY OTHER PUP MADE INCLUDING the DE-ARMOND 3000 !!!!!!!
Lot's of other brands like EPIPHONE and GUILD and PRS and EVEN FENDER have tried the P-90 route only problem is the only REAL sounding P-90 comes FROM GIBSON...sure other sound GREAT but NONE have the warmth and GRIT of a GIBBY !!!!!!
They sure knew what they were doing when they designed this pup !!!!!
Voodoo
my2 cents

I would say uncle Eric is playing a Firebird I (not a III)... due to two control knobs (not four) and lack of a neck PU - as far as my old eyes will go... |
