Not sure if anyone is interested in the "other" guitars, but here is some pics of a guitar I am working on for a client from Cali. Neck angle was set wrong, the binding had shrunk, the top was guaged and the tuner holes were way to big!

Low neck angle (less than 9/16" at bridge)

score the neck joint before removing:

drill holes in fret slot to get steam into neck pocket:

Steaming neck off:

Neck off

Fingerboard with holes in fret slot

tuner holes

plugs

plugged

clean the tenon

change the neck angle and check the fit and angle

much better now 3/4"-13/16" hight

Checking the angle....whats up with that binding? YUCK

Binding got to go

headstock redrilled, and a restored b3 (the b3 was pitted and rough)

recheck the angle once the clamps are off;

the top orange was retouched in about 5 spots and then the guitar is clear coated

The jack cup is very special and unique and MISSING! So my client had his father in law mill a new one up. here is a shot of the new cup next to a 59.

NICE!

BTW: The guitar is a 1957 Gretsch Chet Atkins 6121 Jet. Only about 350 of these were made in the 50's and less than that have survived. This one is retored to about 95% original condition. We are still looking for original pickups. The binding I used was very very close, but not exact, so there is a point or two off for that too.

The guitar is hanging in the shop for another week or two to dry the rest of the way. It has been polished with a nice statin/sheen that looks old but still looks clean. It will be assembled and tested on stage for a few shows before being sent back to california.

Cool Cool Cool

I'll post pictures when completed.

Almost forgot, here is a picture of it before I recieved it. Notice the bridge is still attached to the guitar? It was glued down with Crazy glue. The finish came off when it was removed. That is one area I touched up too

Wow, Joe!

That is some serious carpentry! I'm very impressed, I love to work on guitars myself, but I wouldn't even have the cajones to do all that to a vintage piece like that. Heck, I probably couldn't do that to an Ibanez! Laughing

Beautiful work, very nice. Cool

Thanks. Yep the guit-fiddle is worth quite a small fortune and was quite nerve racking on so many fronts! I am glad it is almost complete.

Fantastic work JD! I particularly like the way you got the neck off the guitar.

Here is a quick shot of the final product....sans the pickguard. I am waiting for a final version of the pickguard to be shipped back to me. I think the owner will be very happy with the outcome.
