Let's see, does that baby have the 490R and 498T pickups? Those are pretty nice, and would certainly be more powerful than your typical Strat or Epiphone pickups.
Enjoy,

Sweet Paul!
Short of not touching it, is there anything that can be done to minmize the gold wearing off? I generally don't like gold hdw(specially on black), but on that color, it looks classy. |

Yeah, it's the 490R and 498T's. Just done the action/intonation/new strings lark and blasted a few tunes on her including her recording debut.
I feel totally comfortable with her already (the hussy)
I looked at the chrome ones but the gold goes great with the wine red
and I dont mind a bit of acceptable wear over the years. |

| I used to think that all the Studio LP's were just solid mahog...but actually the reverse is true. The Black, Red Wind & White studios all have a maple top. BTW - great guitar... |

Yep...only 2 Les Pauls have mahogany tops. The Vintage Mahogany studio and the 57 reissue custom. The rest have maple with the exception of the smart woods and specialty green guitars etc.
Nice guitar. I have owned two identical to that one. One was bought in 91 which I sold a few weeks later. (wish I hadn't) and a 2003 that had a shattered headstock. I still have that one and it is one of the best sounding of all my les pauls....and I have a few.

I was jamming to my favorite hair band called "poison" late one night after some ganja tokes. As I jumped off my bed in my favorite pink tights in an attempt to do the full splits, the headstock of the guitar hit the top of my 8 track player and the guitar broke into splinters. At first I thought a tube of lipstick would hold it back in place so my parents wouldn't find out, but that was too soft and gooy. So I tried some of my moms grits! That sticks good to my ribs so I figured it would hold the headstock on. In fact IT DID! It was perfect for drop C and drop D tuning, but as I got up to SRV style Eb it started to crack again. One chorus of Louie Louie and POP!!!!! off she came again.
She had to under go sugery to get grafted back together again. Now she stands up to the best Buck Owens tunes and sounds like she was run over in the streets of Bakersfield!

Ok, so that wasn't really quite what happened. I was riding my Harley one afternoon with my guitar riding Be-och. I had my favorite t-shirt on that said "if you can read this, the "B" fell off". I guess I offender the poor little redhead and she tried to jump off. Just then a Fosters beer truck came speeding by me in the opposite direction. I guess the truck driver caught her eye because she went straight for the drivers door. Guitars don't have great aero dynamics and she went under the front tire instead of into the cab. Her G string held for awhile, but the weggie final pull up to high and off came top. Its a traggic tail (or is that tale) for sure. If you don't believe this lie, its true! Ask the blind man, he saw it too.

So much for straight answers,JD!
You lost me after the ganja tokes. It reminded me to take my meds. |
