Newby first post - 1963 to 1965 J 50; Owned for 34 years - Had Gibson authorized tech remove and replace adjustable bridge with new bridge. Now sounds really bad - numerous E notes all dead sounding on E and A strings. Technician reworked the nut. Now while tuning, each string is sharper on scope after slightly bending the string on the headstock side of the nut. Tuning is now a nightmare. But Mainly sound is muted/ poor - any similar experiences - solutions, advice appreciated. Tech is experienced, well known, - extremely expensive - thanks, JR Austin Tx. Confused Confused

Well, either this guy had a bad week or he's a hack that somehow got "authorized" by Gibson. He needs to take back your guitar and repair it right - at no charge. If he won't or if he can't; you need to send the instrument back to Gibson with all documentation of work done by the authorized tech; and have them fix it and deal with him and his authorization and then bill him for the proper repairs to fix his ineptness. Question - is this guy well known for work on acoustics - or electrics? Anyone can get good at electrics; it takes specially talented people to do acoustics correctly.

I have to agree with Herb on this one. Maybe even find another local guy and give him a go. Otherwise send it back to Gibson and have them sort it. I have a 1956 J-50 that sounds like a cannon, for years I struggled to play it past the 5th fret. A friend convinced me to send it back to Gibson which I finally did, it was like magic. Good luck.

Any hack can pass himself off as a guitar tech, but a true artist, and a luthier worthy of the title is the only kind you want working on your dearest, closest friends. Cool
