| I bought a '61 EB-0 on eBay a couple of years ago. The tone is soooo low. It almost brings tears to my eyes. What DOES bring tears to my eyes is what its previous owners had done to it. Replaced the tuning keys with cheap knock-offs, changed the knobs, cracked the pickguard, etc., etc. It needs some TLC, but the parts are very hard to come by. |

I don't have a thunderbird though. The RD artist has real quality sounds compared to the (better loooking) EB basses.
I like the ease of playing of the short scale EBs though.
In short RD sounds best (and has a LOT of sounds) but the EBs are easier to play, especially busy basslines!

| I have a 70 or 71 EP0 slothead I have been playing for 20 years or so and just love playing it. I run it through a Traynor Bassmaster with a twin 15 cabinat that I bought new in 1967. I also have a 74 BC Rich Eagle bass that has a larger tonal range but I just can't play it in the summer as the neck is soooo sensitive and the action lifts about 3/4 on an inch off the fretboard. The EB0 lays perfect all year round inside or out. I have been wanting an EB3 for a long time but just haven't connected on a good one yet. Now that I just bought a house I am thinking that maybe I should convert my EBO into an EB3. Anyone have any info on doing it? I have found the pickup for sale at $50 US but haven't seen the varitone(???) unit available anywhere. |
