Why doesn't Gibson try to compete with Fender in the amp market. So many folks swear by Gibson and Fender together. It seems they could put a dent in their rival's sales.

Orville Gibson started making guitars and mandolins in the late 1800's, that was always Gibson's strong point. They didn't start with amps until the 1950's. Leo fender was a radio repairman and started with amps for steel guitars in the late 30's. That was his strong point, he started making guitars in the very late forties with his Broadcaster>nocaster>Telecaster design. Gibson knew how to make guitars best, and Leo knew how to make amps best; and it always just kind of stayed that way.

Leo's amps really set the mark for all guitar amplifiers. Nearly everything out there today in the way of a tube amp started as a copy of Fender's amps at some point in their early history. I think that Fenders are still the best selling and most wanted amplifier out there. I have not yet heard any tube amp out there that hasn't "borrowed" from the Fender design that makes an electric guitar sound as good as a Deluxe Reverb, Vibrolux, Super Reverb, Twin Reverb, Tremolux, Bassman, or Showman.

I love Fender amps.... I got 2 Super Reverbs, a blackface Bassman, and a tweed Champ. If I had more spare cash I'd love to get a tweed Deluxe, a Deluxe Reverb, a 50s Bassman, maybe a Vibroverb and a Showman and....................

Laughing Laughing Laughing I can't help it they all just sound so great! Laughing Laughing Laughing
