Hi
I have a Gibson 1952 LG3 serial Number 681 8 and what looks like either a U or a 0 in front of the 681. The number is seems to be burnt in the inside near the neck.

As you look down into the guitar through the soundhole the letters LG3 are written (burnt) in light gray.
I have written to the powers that be and everyone tells me it is not the real thing, however I know it is, because my husbands mother bought it in 1952.
Any one out there who has any idea about it's value or authenticity?
Thanks for your time

The U would denote the year 1957 but there should be a 4 digit number after the letter instead of three the single digit after that would denote what number of the batch it was. If you can send me a pic I can tell you more. Thanks.
Hayward.
