| The F-25 has a wide - 2" nut - and is great for fingerpicking. |

When I was first learning guitar, way back when, I had a friend who had a Gibson 12-string acoustic. He removed 6 strings (leaving 6!) and played it like that. I was pretty young and didn't know enough to remember the model number or the width of the neck, but it was wide, and great for fingerstyle stuff, too! |

I love Leaon Redbone and the Nick Lucus re-issues are great for that style. But, if like me ... in my opinion, and this is only my opinion, the J-45 is perfect. Short scale and very comfortable in ones lap. Sloped shoulder of course. I tried the Southern Jumbo a few years back and though I liked the sound, ... the slope was my fav. Someday I'll own one. Got an Epiphone AJ-45Se right now and it is really great. I can't complain but it's missing something. Perhaps the finish (bought it in '97 used). Hope this helps.
Best,

| The discontinued Gibson Starburst is one of the best fingerpicking Gibson acoustics, in my opinion. The cutaway gives entire fingerboard access and the flamed maple not only looks great, but helps the high strings cut better against the rich low end of the bass strings. The Blues King Electro is kind of similar in construction and sound, ialbeit with a spruce top, f you can't find a Starburst. |

Being a new member of this forum and pretty much into fingerpicking I wondered what you Forumites would recommend for this style.
I´ve heard guys say that the Nick Lucas reissue are about the ultimative fingerstyle guitar of the entire Gibson acoustic line. Any comments on that? |

Greetings 2000lute!
Welcome to the forum. I finger pick and have found that I like my '47 J-45 for tone, balance, and ease of playing. I played a 'Nick' and it's great for chords and a psuedo-barral house type of sound. If you like Leon Redbone and his style of playing, then I'd say "YES" go with the Nick reissue. If you're playing 'out' or with others, you need something bigger to be heard. That's where the 45 comes into play in my life. I stopped playing out due to my being needed at home but over all, the 45 was my first (and only) pick. The "Parlor" style of the "Nick" is great for a "sing along" on a holiday or for the great chords that can just sing from it's body, but for a crowd, give me the great tone of bass I can only get on my 45. The scale also makes it a delight to finger!
By the way, I'm one of only two females here!
Regards,
Holly |
