I bought a 2001 Gibson SG Special a few months ago, I had a luthier set it up and it plays, and sounds great.

However, there is just one thing I can't shake. Either I've gotten fatter or Gibson SG Special bodies have gotten smaller.

Does anyone know if the Gibson SG Special bodies are smaller than other Gibson SGs?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum! Very Happy I've never had a Special, but the original '60's ones were made from the same body blanks as the Juniors, Standards, and Customs. They measured 12 1/2" x 16" x 1 5/16".

Dude, you've gotten fatter! Welcome to the Forum, anyway!

I own an SG Special, and I've never measured it, but it seems to be the same size as any other SG I've picked up. Now if you want a real surprise, pick up an ES-336 after playing an ES-335! Laughing Laughing

Stay tuned,
Stan

A Special is the same guitar as a Standard, save for the inlays, neck binding and pickups..
