I latched onto your forum here because fairly soon I'm going to be a Les Paul owner. This is actually the model I'm looking to buy. After much research (too much according to my wife), this seems to be a very good bang for the buck guitar to buy. I've only ever owned one Les Paul a long ago and it got stolen. I've been a loyal Fender owner for years and just wanted to own a Les Paul again as well, so here I go.
I noticed that one poster said a real les paul was maple on mahogany, but they must be forgetting the "Black Beauty" model from years past. That was a full mahogany body guitar that seems to be much revered to this day. In fact I believe they have a re-issue model of it currently for sale.
I also noticed that SAGuitar (it's good to talk to ya again bud!), says the vintage mahogany model is being discontinued. That was in May, but it seems they did not actually discontinue it because my local GC has several for sale. Anyways..as soon as my bonus comes in I'm buying one for myself cos the price point is right where I want it. I even got the wife to sign off on it!! That took some doing.
So, having said all that, you guys like your vintage faded lezzies??? |

Love 'em! And it's good to see you too, Xuzak!
By the way, I have a Faded Brown Studio LP that I'd be interested in selling if you're lookin' for one of those. And it looks like this...

How much are you wanting for your Faded Brown studio. That is the one I've been looking at. BTW, I usually logon to this and most other sites while at work, so it seems your pic of the guitar didn't go through. Our firewalls are kinda funny like that. On the other hand you could send me some pics in an email and I would get that. Funny how that works.
Anyway, if the price is right and you can hold on to it until my bonus comes through we might be able to do some binness. Last year it came through around mid Sept, so it looks like we may be shooting for that time period again this year. I'm itching to buy one, in fact I was ready to go to GC today and use my new Platinum card to buy one, but I'd be willing to see what you have and wait if the situation calls for it.
If you could send some pics to my email address of record, I would be happy to view them.
Thanks |

Last Friday, I went to my local GC and purchased a faded mahogany studio guitar. They knocked $200 off the price, so I couldn't hardly not buy it. I still don't have my bonus, but a Platinum card works just fine in a pinch. After not having a Les Paul in such a long time it was nice to hear those classic tones. I don't know how much it weighs, but it feels lighter than my Muddy Waters Tele. I've also found that I have to play every night. It just calls me in the room.
My youngest son came over with his Studio on Saturday and we jammed a little. His girlfriend said mine sounded darker. I guess that's the mahogany top vs his maple top. I think she actually liked mine better than his, but I digress. They both sounded great.
My regular amp is a Peavey LA Series 400, that I bought used a few years ago to play with the Tele. It has a bad short in the cable input. Not all the time, but when I'm playing at loud volumes it happens. I can't buy a really expensive amp, but I've dropped hints to the wife that I will want to buy a full-size amp next b/c the old one has the short.
1) Any suggestions as to what would be a good amp with the Les Paul? Price is definitely an issue, so I can't buy a full fledged marshall stack, but I saw a half stack for $599 that I might be interested in? Any input from you guys? Any other suggestions in that range and below?
2) I do have a Vox AD5 practice amp that I use most of the time and it sounds good. I guess I'll keep that one cos it's so portable and I do get some decent sounds out of it.
Thanks for listening. |

My les paul studio sounds angelic thru my silverface deluxe reverb; but they can be expensive to buy.
I also have a Fender Super Champ XD ($300), which came out last year with the Vibro Champ XD ($250). The super champ xd is a great tube amp with different voicings to choose from that work on both channels. It may be loud enough to gig with in small venues, but can be miked if needed. Check out the reviews on www.harmony-central.com on these two amps; they are a great value for the money. Someone the other day told me that he plays his super champ xd thru a 1x12 cab and is really pleased with the results.
Another amp that I may suggest is the Epiphone Valve Jr., either the combo ($150) or the head and cab ($260 I think). I have both configurations, and, while the only control you get is a volume control, they do sound pretty *Holy Censor, Batman* good (they are class A tube amps). Great practice amp, but can be miked. Again, check reviews for more detailed info...
I hear that the Crate V32 (either the 1x12 or the 2x12) is an awesome tube amp if it has the Tone Tubby speaker(s). These were in the $800 + range when they came out, but can be had for less than $400 I think used.
Good luck,
